As an outsider with no previous background in the dental industry, Ron Cowan began his position as Director of Sales Training at Zimmer Dental with a full plate. His first assignment? Create a comprehensive training program for 300 sales representatives in 30 countries for various product families with almost 1600 products. Make sure the program fits the needs of this fast-growing company, where many sales representatives are hired without industry experience and need be brought up to speed quickly. And counter the skepticism of internal SMEs, who are doubtful an industry outsider can make tackle this challenge.

Finally, Ron will share how, armed with a microphone, a suite of easy-to-use products from Articulate, a laptop and little know-how, he created Zimmer University and deployed over 70 courses in four languages to an international audience. This rapid global rollout of targeted training content was delivered on time, on target and with the ability to track key training results.

Ron Cowan is currently Director of Sales Operations & Training at Zimmer Dental Corp. in Carlsbad, CA. His current responsibilities span operations, training, operational metrics, analytics, customer segmentation, technology systems, as well as process improvement for a global sales and customer service organization.
Prior to Zimmer Dental, Ron was President of The Cowan Group, LLC, a sales training consulting firm and the author of Trigger Event Prospectingä a lead generation methodology (classroom & E-learning based course) used by over 40 companies.
Ron holds an M.B.A. from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University, Houston and brings 10 years of training experience and over 20 years of business and financial experience, strong communication and management skills.
